Jonny Fenix was born Jonathan Smith in Nacogdoches, Texas in 1973, and currently lives in Portland Oregon. He walks with his daughters and wife and wonders why mankind isn’t. Why is man’s push to extinguish rudely everything natural?

Perhaps it is imaginary but he doesn’t fit in. Uncomfortable when there are others around. Parking garages are torture, he prefers to eat cake in bed and lie awake dreaming. His painted imagery to him is the truth. This sea’s not full of fish, but trash.

In the world he is living in this time, there are religious leaders fucking children. The poor fighting rich wars. Big trucks being driven by small minds. Mouths flapping saying nothing. People shitting on curbs, dying in the street and long glossy legs leading nowhere. Musicians elected from fat couches. To him the cricket in the kitchen is far more admirable.

Maybe he’s always been this way. Quietly screaming. From neither school nor the streets, he spent his boyhood in the desserts of Arizona thinking to himself, “this looks like the bottom of the ocean”. Researching everywhere, he attempts to create what his mind sees. Artwork, furniture, sculpture, letters to friends, they are the same and loaded. Soft but Sharp. Pretty and Painful. To say nothing is not possible.

His work has shown in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, Portland, New York and San Francisco. There were ants in each of these cities busy.
